Based on acting experience alone this seems to be a great choice if you ask me. Both actors are incredible at what they do and could be exactly what this reboot needs. Sure, Emma Stone is attached to play Gwen Stacy, but not too many people know of Andrew Garfield who will be playing Spider-Man (you may recognize him as Eduardo from The Social Network).

Hopefully they can reboot this series and bring it back to what we loved about the first one and hiring these talented actors sounds like a good start to me.

I’ve never heard of him, but that doesn’t mean anything. Apparently he was amazing in “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus”, but I have yet to see it so I have no idea. But there you have it, your new Spider-Man.

Origin stories are re-told, and few origin stories are more well known than that of Spiderman.

That Spiderman is being rebooted comes as something of both a surprise and relief, depending on what camp you’re in. Tobey Maguire was, to many, an extemely competent Peter Parker, and whether you’re a passionate fan of the web-slinger or you prefer Party Poker to putting up with any more of Tobey’s antics.

Andrew Garfield has been awarded the role, and a whole cast of competent actors are backing the film, so it may in fact pan out pretty well. But it’s a question of the fan reaction, although that only makes up a small amount of the potential box office audience.

Marvel have turned their comic book line-up into something of a cash cow, and the same can be said for DC. But Spider-Man is sacred, and although it’s relentlessly merchandised and serialised, the films are of a high standard and the impressive cast (look no further than Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn, or Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus) is definitely memorable.

It’ll be a while yet before we get to experience the fruits of their labours, and Spiderman 4 looks set to either reinvent the franchise or disappoint severely. Hopefully the Spiderman image will help to carry the story, and although everyone will be familiar with the narrative (as it’s been told so many times, and even by Hollywood within the last ten years) it will be a chance for Marvel to demonstrate the ever-lasting appeal of New York’s heroic web-head.

You may know Marc Webb as the director of the movie (500) Days of Summer which I have heard good things about, but have yet to actually see. So there you have it, Spider-Man 4 is officially getting it’s feet off the ground after all the controversy in the past few weeks.

So what do you guys think of Marc Webb as the director? As I mentioned above I have not seen (500) Days of Summer so I’m not sure of his style, but critics seem to love the movie so I can’t imagine he’s the worst choice for the Spider-Man franchise.

Sony says that they will reboot the franchise in 2012 with a new director and an all new cast. So you can pretty much disregard any information that you’ve seen posted on this site in the past as it’s all going to change from here on out.

So what do you guys think of this? Do you think a new cast/director will be able to replicate the success of the first 3 films?
